The Tobago Jazz Experience Returns
After a successful sophomore effort that left music lovers begging for more, the Tobago Jazz Experience is back with an exciting line-up of chart-topping artists and local performers.
A celebration of the jazz genre which highlights Tobago’s unique culture, one-of-a-kind cuisine and vibrant heritage, the festival features an eclectic blend of music set against the backdrop of the island’s stunning scenery.
This year’s festival kicks-off on April 23, in the seaside village of Speyside with Jazz in the East. Showcasing the improvisational style of soca, reggae and cross over artistes, in 2011 there will be the inclusion of one traditional jazz act, in the person of songstress Ruth Osman.
On April 24, Hillside Jazz, a new event, will take the spotlight. Featuring some of the home-grown talent emanating from the Signal Hill and Patience Hill districts, including soca star Shurwayne Winchester and the Signal Hill Alumni Choir, this show promises to be a well loved addition to the Tobago Jazz Experience line-up.
From the serene countryside, the experience moves to the bustle of downtown Scarborough with Jazz on the Waterfront. Reminiscent of the New Orleans Jazz Fest which features simultaneous performances, music lovers can enjoy scintillating displays of steelpan, poetry and jazz along the breezy Scarborough Esplanade on April 27.
The pace quickens on April 28, as World Music Night takes over the iconic Pigeon Point Heritage Park with performances from a dynamic programme of entertainers including international hit-maker Trey Songz and popular local bands, Kes the Band, Orange Sky and Karma.
Pigeon Point is also the location for Pazzazz or Pan Jazz and lovers of the instrument will be seduced by the sounds of top bands including Neal & Massy All Stars, PCS Silver Stars and Ken “Professor” Philmore.
The weekend heats up with Jazz on the Beach from 10am at Mt Irvine and Street Beat on April 30, all culminating in Beach Jazz Fiesta on May 1 at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park, featuring headline acts Randy Crawford, Joe Sample and a host of local and regional stars.
