Trinidad welcomes luxury cruise line to begin 2016/17 cruise season
The Port of Port of Spain will officially mark the beginning of the 2016/2017 cruise season when the luxury cruise liner Sirena makes its inaugural visit to Trinidad on Saturday, November 05, 2016.
The Sirena cruise ship will dock in Trinidad with just over 680 passengers as it journeys throughout the Mediterranean, South America, the Caribbean and beyond.
Twenty-one cruise ship calls with a projected total of 22,000 passengers are set to come to Trinidad this season. Major cruise lines like the Seven Seas Navigator, the World Odyssey and the MSC Poesia are all scheduled to berth in the port of Port of Spain. The cruise season ends in May 2017.
The World Odyssey closely follows the Sirena from November 13-14, bringing 600 international students and lecturers visiting Trinidad as part of the Semester at Sea (SAS) programme. To recognise the visit, the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) will host a Pan Yard Experience for the visiting students to introduce them to Trinidad and Tobago’s culture.
Established in 1963, SAS is a global education programme for students attending universities around the world. The World Odyssey functions as both a travelling university and residential home to over 700 SAS participants while they circumnavigate the globe and acquire the broadest cultural and intellectual exposure possible from the destination. Students also help to promote the various destinations they visit by documenting their experiences on all forms of social media.
As is customary, the TDC will deploy visitor guides on the port and at strategic locations in Port of Spain to offer assistance and information to the visitors. There will also be free Wi-Fi, a variety of quay side activities and on-shore tours available for cruise passengers, both in and around the city of Port of Spain.
